And so you embark upon the great crusade...

Here it is, D.C. Today we went all over the city to all of the monuments and different things, and I saw some amazing things and got some amazing pictures...but I also learned something about myself.

We went to the Jefferson Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam and Korean Veterans Memorials, the World War II Veteran's Memorials and to Arlington National Cemetary, which included the JFK gravesite and the tomb of the unkown soliders.

The entire day, I was excited to go to the "wall" and to Arlington. As some of you know, my father was a Navy Seabee in Vietnam, so seeing not one, but two memorials dedicated to his service was amazing (Yes, two, there is an actual seabee memorial in Arlington). But the entire time I was at the wall, looking at the names of some of my father's friends and squadmates, it hit me:

What if it would have been him on that wall?

But I pushed that thought to the back of my mind, because I didn't want it to cloud up the day. Then at Arlington, after seeing rows upon rows of graves, it hit me: Why? Why have there been so many lives lost? Especially after World War II...it just doesn't seem like we know what we are fighting for...I hope the real reason I am here decides to change that in a week and a day or so.

But besides from that sort of sombering idea, today was a lot of fun. There will be pictures up later, but I can't load them now, so you will just have to wait.

With all of that said, I leave you with this thought that a good friend and I discussed today:

Dulce et Decorum est Pro patria mori. "It is sweet and right to die for your country"
